Former UC President Janet Napolitano Receives ACE Lifetime Achievement Award

Janet Napolitano, former University of California president and first woman in that role, has been given the American Council on Education’s (ACE) Lifetime Achievement Award.

Napolitano is currently a professor of public policy and director of the Center for Security in Politics at The Goldman School at UC Berkeley.

She was U.S. secretary of homeland security (2009 to 2013), governor of Arizona (2003 to 2009), attorney general of Arizona (1998 to 2003) and U.S. attorney for the District of Arizona (1993 to 1997).

During her time leading UC, Napolitano launched an initiative to quicken the translation of UC research into businesses and inventions and established reforms to preventing and responding to sexual harassment and assault.
