MSCHE Advocacy Alert: Registration Open for Upcoming NACIQI Meeting
Middle States Commission on Higher Education’s (MSCHE)
As part of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education’s (MSCHE) strategic priority to promote advocacy initiatives for members and others, we encourage institutional members, students, and the public to join the United States Department of Education’s (USDE) National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) meeting, February 27-28, 2024.
Registration for the meeting is now open. Institutional representatives and other constituents can provide public comment by submitting a request in advance. Materials for the meeting, including the agenda, are available in the Federal Register.
The Committee will review applications for renewal of recognition, compliance reports, and requests for expansion of scope. The February agenda includes five applications for renewal of recognition: The Kansas State Board of Nursing, The Missouri State Board of Nursing, The Oklahoma Board of Career and Technology Education, New York State Board of Regents, and The Pennsylvania State Board of Career and Technical Education.
The Committee will also consider four compliance reports on the agenda for the following accreditors: Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, Council on Occupational Education, Transnational Association of Christian Colleges, and Schools Accreditation Commission.
NACIQI provides recommendations regarding accrediting agencies that monitor the academic quality of postsecondary institutions and educational programs for federal purposes. The process for USDE Accreditor Federal Recognition, which recognized accreditors undergo every five years, requires accreditors to submit a petition for recognition for review. USDE sends its final staff recommendation to NACIQI for its recommendation relating to renewal of an accreditor’s recognition. Accreditors seeking renewal appear before NACIQI to make a formal presentation and answer questions from NACIQI members before a recommendation is made. The Department’s Senior Official then makes a final decision following the NACIQI meeting.
MSCHE appeared before NACIQI in March 2023 as part of USDE’s Accreditor Federal Recognition Process, which you can learn more about at the MSCHE recognition webpage.
