New Member Appointed to DEAC Board of Directors
The Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) is pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Haas, Esq., Director of Education and Chief Academic Officer, National Paralegal College, has been appointed to the DEAC Board of Directors. The Commission elected to use its authority under Article IV, Section 8 of the Bylaws to appoint Mr. Haas to a partial term that commenced August 31, 2022 and continues through March 31, 2024.
“We welcome Stephen to a dedicated and talented board,” said Leah Matthews, Executive Director and CEO of DEAC. “His experience as a volunteer evaluator, especially in the areas of institutional effectiveness assessment and outcomes data analysis, will be extremely valuable as DEAC continues to strengthen the board’s talent and background in higher education and distance learning.”
Mr. Haas has more than fifteen years of experience in the distance education field, having served at National Paralegal College since its inception 2003, and as Chief Academic Officer since 2009.
“I’ve always been proud of NPC’s affiliation with an accrediting body that provides so much peer support and yet consistently insists on excellence in all areas from all of its member schools, and I look forward to continuing that proud legacy as a member of the Commission,” said Mr. Haas.
Mr. Haas graduated from Pace University School of Law, where he ranked in the top three percent of his class and served as a senior member of the Pace Law Review. Stephen has extensive law practice experience, mostly in the areas of estate planning and elder law and has taught in many different capacities. He has also worked at the United States Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York (federal prosecutor’s office) in White Plains, New York, and at the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.
